Trek ordering time

It depends upon how far you are from the "local" warehouse. A single bike
will ship UPS. Since it was ordered at 4pm, there's close to zero chance it
make it out that day, but it should likely ship the next. Go to the UPS
website and place a dummy booking (or just read their zone maps with
estimated delivery time) to find out when the shop will get it.

Plus add in however much time the shop needs to build the bike; typically it
can get built and checked out, ready to go, the day following when it
arrives. It would be nice to believe it can be built and ready on the same
day, but that's not always practical; sometimes UPS arrives late, sometimes
a bike might have an issue that needs to be taken care of (UPS is getting
pretty good at inflicting hidden damage lately, the sort of thing you don't
notice until you're already almost done with building the bike).

I ordered a Trek once (that came from the warehouse one state away) on
a Wednesday and was riding the bike the next Monday, which included a
day for setup. It might have been different if I called a different day
because the store mentioned someting about scheduled deliveries where
they group orders together to get a bunch of stuff from the warehouse
in one shipment. I don't think they would've made that up, but maybe he
was trying to sound like a high volume shop.

Are you in that kind of a hurry? When I'm buying a new bike it is a process
of months. I never buy a complete bike though.

Are you in that kind of a hurry? When I'm buying a new bike it is a process
of months. I never buy a complete bike though.

And for me that 80/20 rule always applies. 20% of the job requires 80%
of the time. For the last bike it was more like 99/1. The final 3
weeks were to get a properly working headset bearing preload mechanism.
And before that it took a couple months to get the chain and cassette.
Good thing I had two other bikes to ride.
