I decided to replace the one-piece headstem on my road bike with a separate quill and headstem to
get the right height and length (no more overstretching for me). The quill is a Cinelli 1" quill
which looks to be the same diameter as the old one, but I'm stuffed if I can get it to fit. It seems
to be a couple of millimetres too big. I thought they only came in 1" and 1 1/8". Is there anything
smaller? It seems a bit bizarre to me that my road bike and MTB both have the same size quill but it
is smaller than what seems to be the standard quill for sale. I'm half tempted to give it a whack
with the hammer but will wait and see if some more sensible advice comes to hand.
