From the Letterman interview I got the somewhat surprising (to me) fact that Lance will turn 33
years old before next July. I have heard it said that no one has won the Tour de France beyond age
32 for a long time. I got curious and wondered how long.
After digging around, I found out that Joop Zoetemelk won at the age of 33 in 1980 (he was born 3
December 1946). Of course he was something of an anomaly. He also won the World Championship Road
Race at age 39.
Does anyone have a complete list of post-age-32 winners? I'd like to get a feel for how difficult
this is and thus size up Lance's chances.
