I put an Ultegra ST-6510 shifter on my road bike. I have double chain rings on my crankset (Dura Ace
FC-7701, 53/39T). The problem is that I have to use two clicks to make a front gear shift. I thought
I only would need one click and that the third position on the front shifter would be needed for
cranksets with triple chain rings only. The front derailleur is an older braze-on Shimano 600
Ultegra. Is this not compatible with this combination? If I need to upgrade the derailleur, should I
use FD-6500 for double chain rings or should I use FD-6503 for triple chain rings and block the
third position?

Normal, the first click just moves the fder out a wee bit in case you are small ring and going to
smallish cogs. Next will shift the chain up to the big ring.
