Eight years ago, the UCI told us that they would clean up this sport of ours.
I am attaching some photos of press briefings which the UCI gave to Cycle Sport Magazine in September/October 1998 in the immediate aftermath of the Festina Scandal.
Back then, the UCI told us that this would never happen again.
As we all know, there have been numerous scandals since July 1998.
As you read the media/press/cycling press coverage today and over the next few days, I would ask you to think about what is written now and what was written then.
And I would ask you to consider how badly the UCI have managed our sport.
And then perhaps you will see that what we have all been subjected to in the past 8 years lies squarely with the UCI and their unwillingness to tackle the problem of cheating.
