UCI takes Grand Tours to the European Commission

    The saga continues...as reported in Velonews. "The UCI has filed a complaint with the European Commission alleging that organizers of cycling's three biggest races have conspired to sabotage the ProTour series. "

    "The UCI claims that the three jewels in the cycling calendar have set up a cartel to protect their dominant position in professional road cycling. "

    I'm not familiar with the workings of the European Commission, but I didn't think they adjudicated on things like this. I know that it (the Commission) is supposed to be independent and not take instructions from any particular country.

    Will this move by the UCI turn this debate into a contract dispute? If so, could this give the UCI the upper hand (assuming the contracts in place are clear in giving them authority in governing cycling)?
