Ullrich has gone underground and refused internal T-Mobile DNA tests....

You're not giving the German word "Blödsinn" its full due (the phrase Ullrich used in the original German and translated as "****") -- one of the things that gets lost in translation -- it can be used in any context from the relatively polite "that's nonsense" through to the slightly stronger "that's ****" to the much more emphatic "that's full and utter ********" -- Given the current context I think Ullrich may have been leaning towards the more emphatic use of the phrase.
Thanks, nonsense is a better translation. I thought about how to translate "Blödsinn" for a while, you're right it's one of the things that get lost in translations.

According to Radsportnews.com Jan reacted on the remarks of professor Franke by saying (in Fridays edition of the German newspaper Bild): "The man likes to hear himself talking and wanted to be on television again, i didn't hear such **** for a long time".

http://radsportnews.net/2006/ullrichskandal_franlke.shtml
Franke has now reacted to Ullrich's comments. No time to precis in depth but the article opens with Franke's quote "The stupid boy with the red cheeks should be quiet and remove himself to a Baltic island where he won't be heard from for thirty years." Very mature comments from Herr Professor. He goes on to talk about how he went over the documentation with one of his Spanish colleagues, some of the drugs involved and how what is being done is an affront to molecular biology. He states that "Jan Ullrich will not come out of this." Wolfgang Strohband (Ullrich's manager) is quoted as saying that if someone would ask him he would say that the accusations are totally rubbish.

Bauerfan - there is a article on the stern.de website today where I think (as my german is not great) Strohband is saying 'enough Jan bashing'. Can you have a look and get back to us.

The Stern article is similar to the others in the German media except there are more quotes from Strohband. He basically starts off by saying enough already. He indicates that Franke is a neurotic who likes to be in the public eye. He questions how Franke could even have such documents as he hasn't been forwarded them as Jan's representative. He doubts that Franke is telling the truth. He ends up saying that all the groundless attacks must stop and he is meeting with his lawyers in order to examine whether legal action should be taken against Franke.

My God this is getting ugly

Seems to me that many benefit from doping and want it to continue. Where are the documents 2 months after OP?

What happened to the Astana 5 and C.V. team who were cleared. Two months in and not a shred of public evidence.

Its unbelievable that one month after Basso/JU were booted out of the TdF they STILL haven't been served with the documents.

I believe Basso's representives have finally received the documents yesterday but do not know what the charges are. He will be face the Italian Olympic committee for questioning on his role in Operation Puerto, on August 29 and an annoucment made on 3 September on the outcome.

Have not heard when any of the other riders implicated will be seen by their associations.

(Thanks Bauerfan for the translation of the stern article)

The only citation I can find for this is from a Canadian web site, citing the Italian news agency ANSA. I have searched ANSA's site, but did not find the source. Anyone else?

Justice works slowly. No mistake is neccessary. Cycling can only wait.
Astana team was cleared at this moment but may be we will see an italian boomerang. In Italia, jail is possible :( but cheater should reflect to this.

ind Dr. Franke credible and will no longer report what he has to say.

Yes i read that this morning and i am amazed what Franke is doing lately. I used to respect him for his work but after the last interviews i saw (on German tv) he lost a lot of credibility.
Good news for Ullrich then. I want to watch the Ulle and Basso news closely. I find it odd that the riders for a team(LSW) that were umbilically attached to Saiz and Fuentes are let off the hook but other riders who are remotely associated are still in question. This seems a little strange to me.

I read there has been a lot of trade off between governments... ie footballers being removed from pressure from Federal governments ! Then trade offs to get cyclists off the list ! The entire thing is a storm in a teacup... there is only one man who knows... Fuentes and he will never speak... and if he did no one would believe him.. somepeople who sound like they know quite a bit on the the German EuroSport forums claim that Landis was a patient of Fuentes and the UCI knew this.... he was targeted as the man to get by the UCI... they claim they would of got him one way or another....

Sounds like you agree with Floyd that maybe there's an agenda.
Ever wonder, only big name riders to go under the microscope?
Landis...Hamilton...Armstrong...do I detect a pattern,,, while it looks like Basso and Ullrich are getting set to walk. WIth help from UCI???

I am pretty sure there is an agenda, but i am also 100% sure Floyd doped. The agenda has nothing to with being an American rider, it has to do with ASO putting pressure on Jan and Ivan not to start and the UCI hits back with Landis. Normally (TdF's untill 2005) he (Landis) would have been doped and got away with it. He probebly didn't know that if you dope noewadays you can be caught in the crossfire between ASO and UCI. There is no patron Landis.. Hamilton... Armstrong... (you forgot Perez, Camenzind, Heras and lots of other non-American riders, you also forgot that Armstrong was never suspended) and Ullrich and Basso.. when they walk certainly not because the UCI wants them to walk, they walk because there never was any evidence in the first place. Hamilton and Landis where positive, it was prooven, they doped.

Ullrich wins court case against Prof. Dr. Franke. Franke is not allowed to say anymore that Ullrich paid in one year alone 35.000 Euros to Fuentes. Franke told this again and again in various interviews. If Franke repeats his allegation he risks a fine of Euro 250.000 or 6 months in prison.
