Ultegra 6500 vs. 6600 crank & BB

Hi all,
It's time for me to replace my current Ultegra 6500 crank set and
bottom bracket. I have been using this setup for several years now and
was thinking of going to the new series Ultegra 6600 set. I have
checked the weights and do not see much difference in that area. Is
the new BB design that much better than the 6500 cartridge? There are
no maintaince issuse between the two but about once or twice during a
season I seem to experience a common "creaking" noise from the 6500
BB. When that occurs, I simply take it out, regrease the threads and
reassemble the unit and usually it goes away. Does this happen with
the 6600 BB? I would keep the 6500 crank but it will not work with the
6600 BB. So, should I just get another 6500 BB and new crank rings, or
go the 6600 set?
Cheers

NIB 7700 cranks going for $100-$120 on Ebay, I'd go that route and
stay with the Octalink BB.

6600 BBs, cranks can creak also. The only issue is that eventually,
since the only maker of Octalink is shimano, these BBs will be hard to
find. Until that happens, I don't see that the multi $ expense of a
new crank and BB would do anything for your cycling performance.

OBTW-make sure you add grease to the inside f the left cup of the 6500
BB.
