Ultegra 6700

Well it's finally here and looks great. In terms of blings factor I wouldn't say no and would happily ditch my 2008 record QS gear in favour of it. Enough said. Let's wait for working reviews and then it could be goodbye Campy. Now let's see what Alienrapeher and Pete have to say about this. Over to the "experts"....

Is it front derailleur, brake and crankset specific?
Why on earth would you 'happily dump' 2008 Record for this?
Less function, less compatibility, non-serviceable levers, heavier(altho that means nada.

You do finally get the der housing under the bartape tho...ooooo

I switched from Ultegra 9 to Record 10 about 5 years ago, and have never looked back. You couldn't even compare the 2. Record is light, quick, silent and never misses a shift and the stuff lasts forever. In fact I'm still using an old cassette for cross, that has plenty of life in it despite being used every winter for the past few years. And from a repairability standpoint they aren't even in the same league. Replacement parts are easy to find for Campy too, but the only thing I needed to replace in 5 years has been a bar clamp that I stripped, and a couple chainring bolts.

I'm sure Ultegra 6700 is a fine group, but I'll stick with Record and my next bike will have Record 11, no doubt.

Pete or Peter is fine by my. My friends call me Pete, so I certainly welcome that on this site..

For Nuru..if like 7900, about twice what 6600 was or in the $1500-$1800 range. Lots for a medium end group. About the same as Chorus 11s, thereabouts I'm guessing.

I would have a hard time pasing on Chorus 11 or Centaur !0 and a nice set of handbuilt wheels, if I was looking at spending $1,800 on Ultegra.

But I'm a campy guy...

For Nuru..if like 7900, about twice what 6600 was or in the $1500-$1800 range. Lots for a medium end group. About the same as Chorus 11s, thereabouts I'm guessing.

On Germans webstores Ultegra6700 price is 610-630 euro. That is about 20-50 euro more than Ultegra SL. Or about 20 Euros less than Centaur carbon groupset.

SR same as 7900....Chorus 11 same as 6700...mailorder also so pretty close to fairly 'normal' MO MSRP.

7800 chains are disappearing, replaced by the $90 7900 chain. Wonder if the 6600 chain will go away also, hopefully the 6700 and 5700(?) will still be reasonable. Best chains for the $, IMHO.

Nope. The market in the US is much more 'controlled' than in Europe. Few shimano deep discounters or they will lose the ability to BUY, then resell shimano. Not sure if European laws permit such a thing but also true for Campagnolo. NOT price fixing. You can sell a 7900 chain for $20 if you want but the next time you want to buy more, you may not be able to.

I base my numbers on wholesale and retail by 'authorized' shimano resellers, in the US. Can you find discounted bike stuff online? Sure but need some basis for pricing. Deeply discounted, gray/black market stuff is not that basis.

I based my nummbers on real market prices, not on some weird RRP, (to which no one follows lately)
But we can look at RRP prices in UK, (if it changes something).

Shows how hard it is to compare. $3300 for SR is much more than it is here, but shimano prices are less than in the colonies. Interesting they have prices for Athena even tho it doesn't really exist yet(nor does 6700 for that matter). As is DI2, but lower groups are not consistent. Lets agree that all of it is too expensive.
