Ultegra 9 Hub for 8 Speed Cassette?

I'm pretty sure this is ok but thought I'd make sure.

When building a wheelset for my Trek 1000 with SRAM 8 speed cassette is it OK to use an Ultegra 9 speed hub?

Also, is the Mavic Open Pro "squeak" a huge problem or has it been overblown by other posters?

Yes, Ultegra 9 hub is fine.
