I'm fitting a recumbent with Ultegra road gears and plan to use my 'bent for touring from Nordkapp, Norway to Helsinki, Finland in several weeks. I'll be pulling a trailer, so I need sprockets larger than the standard 28T. 32T or 34T would be nice.

My chain is over 10 feet long because the distance from the BB to rear hub is almost 5 feet. I mention this because, despite the chain routing, the inherent slack will be more than on an upright.

Here is the question:

Other than the cassette, I'm trying to avoid mixing MTB and Road components; therefore, can someone tell me if it is possible to use an Ultegra Long-Cage derailleur with either a 32T or 34T cassette?

Shimanski's MTB and Long-Cage Road derailleurs seem to share the same parallelogram (maybe to facilitate production?). That is why I am hopeful that it will work.
