There was a report on the news this morning that a cyclist was trail riding around the Pukupunyal (not sure of spelling) area when he and bike fell down an old shaft.....But as luck would have it......he fell on a old mattress at the bottom that helped break his fall and so coming our of it with only a broken leg.....when lifted from the shaft, he was all smiles and grinning.
This accident could've been a lot worse only for that old mattress......I wonder how the bike faired!!

Actually it was a motorcyclist (see below). A rather [censored] weekend all round on Victoria's roads, especially for motorcyclists.
There was another incident on New Year 05, with a cyclist falling down a mine shaft in Rushworth.

The rider was apparently trail-biking at about 3pm AEDT when he fell down the hole. Paramedics say a mattress cushioned the man's fall, and he is conscious and alert but complaining of a sore leg. State Emergency Service (SES) officers are on the way to the scene to winch him out. Four motorcyclists have died on Victorian roads since Friday afternoon.

OOPS!! yeah, maybe the newsreader read it wrong as I'm bloody near sure she said cyclist...and when he was lifted from the big hole in the ground,he looked like he had a cyclist helmet rather than a motorcycling helmet but was a bit hard to see due to all the straps he had on with the stretcher.
Oh well....the result was the same.........poor bugger!!
