Since I got my FS bike last year, my old bike, a 10 year old
Giant Sedona, has been become my back-up bike (it's from
when the Sedona was actually a mountain bike btw, not a
hybrid/comfort bike as they are now) Mostly it gathers dust
in the garage. The Sedona has a nearly non-functional Manitu
1 fork on it. A friend of mine has offered to give me his
old Rock Shox Judy fork for free, so I'm considering the
upgrade. Granted not a great upgrade, but anything is better
then the near 0" of travel of the Manitu.
Anyway, I'm trying to decide whether this is worth the
effort and any additional costs.
First question: Does anyone familiar with this bike (or
bike's of its era) know if I would have to replace the
headset when I switch the forks? Would I need to change the
stem also? I believe I currently have a quill-type stem
installed.
Second: The old fork has cantalever brake mounts, while the
Judy uses v- brakes. I can bum an old v-brake off one of my
buddies, so that's not a problem, but can I use the old
brake lever? The brake levers on the bike are integrated
with the shifters, so I'd rather not replace them.
Thanks in advance!
