Planning on doing a century ride tomorrow with my new Mavic Aksium wheels. They arrived today and I have encountered a problem when putting the 10 speed ultegra cassette on.
Previously my wheel was an ultegra hub with open pro rims and the cassette fitted perfectly. But there is a huge amount of play in the sprockets when I put the cassette on the new Mavic Aksium wheel. It seems like the hub freewheel is too wide for the cassette.
I then decided to take a look at my second winter bike to see if I could work out the problem. My winter bike has 105 10 speed with shimano hubs. There is a very small metal ring on these shimano cassettes which goes behind the largest 25 sprocket in between the cassette and hub. I decided to take this off my winter bike and put it on the new Aksium wheel - so now there are 2 small metal rings between the hub and the largest sprocket of the cassette.
This has made a great improvement although it still doesn't seem 100% right.
Please can someone offer the benefit of their experience.
Thanks
