Hey guys I know this is my first post and I don't like to start off by asking for help so quick, but I do have a question about a bike that I need answered pretty quick.

You see I just purchased a bike off ebay and before I pay for the bike I want to make sure it is in fact the bike I was planning on purchasing.

You see I found a New 2006 Trek 1500 on ebay with a BIN of 600:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190153089452&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=009

I realized it was a great deal and I could not pass it up so I opted for the BIN option. Well as I was examining the ad some more I realized that the stats for the bike were for a Trek 1000. Then I decided to go to the Trek website and look up the stats for the 2006 Trek 1500:

http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2006/archive/1500

After examining those I realized that the ebay seller had the wrong stats in his ad. He had posted the stats for the 1000 so then I asked him about it. This is the response I got from him:

What happen is the guy passed away and his wife was selling the store inventory. I went to the Trek web site and did some checking myself and found out the bike is actually a 2007 1000TM in team discovery colors. It matches item for item. Not sure what you want to do. I paid $550.00 plus $33.00 tax for the bike. Infact both bikes are 1000's. Its up to you. Look it up and let me know. Stan.

So then I went and looked up the stats/picture for the 2007 Discovery Trek 1000:

http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2007/archive/1000

The stats that the ebay seller do in fact match the stats for the 2007 1000, but as you can see by the pictures the bikes are completely different. The pictures that the ebay seller posted match detail for detail to the 2006 Trek 1500 and look nothing like the 2007 Trek 1000.

Does anyone how this could be? Did trek by any chance make a Trek 1000 in 2006/2007 that looked like the 2006 1500? I was also thinking maybe this guy just found some pictures of a Trek 1500 and posted those for his ad.

I really have no idea, but I don't want to pass up a deal like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:D

Looks to me like it might be a 2006 Trek 1500 built up with parts from a 1000. The decals look to be 2006, not 2007. Based on the seller's response it appears he doesn't know what he's selling. The bike looks OK, but considering the seller's shipping charge, that's no bargain for that bike.

Well if it is in fact a true 1500 with 1500 components then 685 shipped is a killer deal. The cheapest you can find 07 1500's for are about 899-949 plus tax/shipping.

Well to me it sounds like the seller took some pictures he found of a bike he thought was his cuz his bike was still in the box and didn't realize what he had was a 1000 until I started asking him about it and then realized the bike he really had was in fact a 2007 Trek 1000 and not a 2006 Trek 1500.

If it is in fact a 2007 1000 then you are right and it's not that great of a deal at all.

Does anyone know where the best place is to buy a 2007 or even 2006 Trek 1500 is? Like I said before the cheapest I can really find it for is about $949.

Thanks for the help guys. I know I'm new to this forum, but I'm not new to forums in general. I'm looking to get into riding so I'm sure you'll see me around here more often.

True, but one of the eBay photos shows the Tiagra rear derailleur up close. This is a downgraded 1500.
