Thanks

I guess it depends on the parts you are looking for. But in the US
there aren't that many crooked internet mail order bike places. I've
ordered from several found on web searches and had no problems at all.
I'd suggest you do a Google search to find the part you need and buy
it.

In the UK do you think everyone in America is a criminal out to steal
every foreigner's money? In your country do you mistrust every
internet mail order place so you apply the same perception to other
countries? I've ordered from Settle Cycles and Ribble Cycles and never
gave it a second thought about having my money stolen.

I almost want to think that maybe the op is an older (than me) person.
It's pretty common, here in the U.S., for older (than me) people to be a
little paranoid about buying on-line. I personally have bought many
things cycling related and non-cycling related items on-line and never
had a problem with theft or anything like that.

Err.. I was really just interested in places with a large stock and a
good record for fast delivery.

I don't see where the OP made any suggestion that US mail order bike
stores were thieves. I am not sure how you got to that conclusion.

Yeah, that seemed pretty obvious to me; not sure where that weirdness
about mis-trust "theives" came from.

I buy from many of them and they all pretty much work the same. I often
use Froogle to search for good prices on common items. I would watch
shipping charges, I have come to the conclusion that shipping from the
UK to the US is a bargain but the reverse is not. A few good sources
that come to mind and I have used are:

Harris Cyclery for everything: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/parts.html

Loose Screws for small itens: http://www.thethirdhand.com

Campagnolo spare parts: http://www.ochsnerusa-store.com/

Really cool prices on closeouts: http://www.chucksbikes.com

Some item listings indicate they will take a few days to ship at:
http://www.bikeman.com/

http://www.coloradocyclist.com

http://aebike.com

http://www.pricepoint.com

http://www.excelsports.com

http://www.triathlete.com/store/

And of course the twins:
http://www.nashbar.com/
http://www.performancebike.com

I would second lickbick.com and excelsports.com, and also
sheldonbrown.com/harris/parts.html
have had great experiences with all these, the few troubles I have had
have been delt with professionally, they know what they are selling,
and the pricing is great.

That was my impression of your original post.

Lots of internet mail order places around here, most of what they sell
seems to be available on your side of the pond as well. If you could let
us know which items you're looking for, or what general class of items
you're looking for, lots of us would love to offer suggestions.

For starters:

www.nashbar.com, the original discount mail order place with lots of
cheap stuff and some bargains to be had on good quality stuff

www.coloradocyclist.com, catering to the racer and serious athlete.

http://sheldonbrown/harris/ Harris Cyclery, good source for odd sized
tires and tubes, and too much other stuff to list here.

HTH,

Check the shipping rates closely.

I don't know whether the following applies to UK shipments.

In my experience having pieces shipped to Canada from the US, watch out
for customs brokerage fees. I don't mind paying applicable taxes etc on
delivery, but having a piece held ransom on your doorstep until the
carrier's inflated brokerage fee is paid really sucks.

I know for sure nobody shipping United Parcel Service to Canada will
ever get business from me.

If the OP is watching the American political process, he might be
forgiven for thinking that. The perennial theme for campaign season is
"accentuate the negative."

I'm having more trouble with figuring what bike parts are available here
that aren't available in the U.K.

That'd be "lickbike.com" not "lickbick.com."

Panaracer T-Serv tyres seem to be non-existent in the UK and I've been
riding them happily for a couple of years (on the recommendation of Mr
Hickey) I find the the occasional specialist part that I can't get here
and as I'm in the US in a few weeks I'm putting a shopping list together.

Ochsner is wholesale only.

It was until last year. From their front page:
"From 1975 to 2005 Ochsner International only sold Campagnolo products
directly to authorized bicycle dealers."

didn't know that but a look at their 'store', they really don't sell
much that MO sells.

Don't forget Andy at http://www.yellowjersey.org/

I have some very good LBS in my area and I tend to support them whenever
possible especially when the price difference is only a few dollars and
I can see it in my hand.

I use MO businesses for hard to find items that most LBS wouldn't have
in stock and would need to order.
