Using a "Low-Normal" derailer with Ultegra bar end shifters: Mother may I?

Hi,

I'm assembling a basket-case Gary Fisher my nephew gave me. I've
gutted the frame and cleaned it and am getting parts in daily for it
from Ebay. I won a RD-M760 rear derailer and when I got it, I couldn't
help but notice that the spring was in backwards... or was it? I
called my buddy who knows alot about bikes and he said I can't use it
with my bike. Seems to me it would work but the shifter would be
backwards compared to what i'm used to, but I don't know.. Anyone have
any suggestions? Should I trade it for a regular rear derailer or just
use this one?

Thanks,
Tony

It will work fine with the bar ends. Just the other way around.- as
you push the right lever down, you will be going to lower gears. Which
matches the front shifting, if that matters to you. According to the
second review here-

one user found shifting got better with a rapid ride derailleur like
yours.

You are right, it will just work " backwards", but the indexing will be
fine and your bar-end wil shift it. Finish your build and ride it over
to your "buddy who knows alot about bikes" and give him another lesson.
We are all still learning.
