I don't know if this has been thought of before, but...
I was watching Sofa's UW wheel video and a thought came to
my mind. Why not make an ultimate wheel like the 'Yuni'
(unicycle.comshopexd.aspOpen ↗) but
with taps for several pedal positions. This would allow
the rider to choose from several "crank lengths". There
would also be a set of taps in the middle to turn the UW
into a BC.
I think pedals would make for a good BC, as long as you
weight them so they don't spin wildly in the initial roll.
They should be exponentially easier then pegs because they
won't roll out from under your feet, but won't be as easy as
using dropped platforms.
