Katusha’s Anton Vorobyev took his first win of the season in the seven-kilometer prologue of Belgium’s Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen (Three Days of West Flanders) in Middelkerke. The 24-year-old Russian set the fastest time before half of the start list had set out from the ramp, and his mark of 7:57 survived every challenger that followed to give him the victory by a comparatively large margin. The four-second gap between Vorobyev and second-place finisher Jesse Sergent (Trek Factory Racing) was the largest of any gap between sequentially-placed riders inside the top 100.

The race continues Saturday with a 174.1km Stage 1 from Bruges to Harelbeke.
