Anna Solovey, silver medalist in the world time trial championships last fall, has been fired by the Astana-Acca Due O team. The Kazakhstani team made the announcement on Tuesday.
In a written statement, Astana said, “The decision came in response to several organizational difficulties that the athlete, with her unprofessional behavior, has caused to the team and its prestigious sponsors in these first months of 2015.”
Solovey, 23, was banned for for two years following an anti-doping violation. She tested positive for Drostanolone in 2011.
To date, the Ukrainian’s best 2015 result was a fourth place in the Chrono de Gatineau on June 5 in Canada.
“We are sorry to have arrived at this point because we believe that Anna Solovey has great cycling qualities, and she would have to be the top rider of the team for this season,” the team’s statement concluded. “But the situation was no longer sustainable: It’s a matter of respect for us, the teammates, our sponsors, and organizers of the races.”
