Spotted: Redesigned Trek Madone makes appearance at Dauphine
This ain’t your grandpa’s Madone. Bauke Mollema's totally redesigned Madone was spotted at Critérium du Dauphiné and turned heads with its brand-new aero look. If you think you’re looking at a totally different bike, that’s because you are, essentially: shaped tubing, redesigned head tube, and integrated brakes give the Madone a facelift. An arched top tube joins the seat tube and seat stays with what appears to be an IsoSpeed coupler. The rear brake is also up off the bottom bracket where it lived on previous Madone models. Photo: Tim De Waele

Aero bikes tend to ride harshly, so a new IsoSpeed coupler could help smooth things out. A Kamm tail rear end adds a fast aerodynamic touch. Photo: Tim De Waele

What appears to be an integrated headset links up with a one-piece handlebar and stem. Cables are likely routed through the sleek handlebar/stem combo. Photo: Tim De Waele

Trek’s got something up its sleeve — or at least in its down tube. This compartment could be some sort of hatch for a Di2 junction box, or it could be something else entirely. Photo: Tim De Waele

Integration is the name of the game. Similar to the Specialized Venge spotted at Tour de Suisse, the front brake tucks neatly into the fork, except on the Trek, it lives on the front of the legs. Photo: Tim De Waele

The front brake cable likely runs up through the head tube to the handlebars. It's difficult to tell how this brake works, but it appears to be cable-actuated. There also appears to be a flap on the lower part of the head tube, perhaps to access the top part of the front brake. Photo: Tim De Waele
