Photo: Tim De Waele | <a href="http://www.tdwsport.com" target="_blank">TDWsport.com</a></p></figure><p>After victories in Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya, Team Sky’s Richie Porte is now in prime position to seal a win in the Giro del Trentino after taking a stage victory and the overall lead in the second day of the race. The Australian raced in his teammates’ wheels on the early ramps of the Brentonico finishing climb before unleashing a powerful uphill charge that found no one able to respond.</p>
<p>Mikel Landa (Astana) was the best-placed of those behind, with Lampre-Merida’s Damiano Cunego coming in third. Porte’s Sky teammate Leopold König crossed the line in fourth. With his stage victory, Porte took the race lead from Cesare Benedetti, and now enjoys a 24-second advantage over Landa, with König third on GC, 42 seconds behind.</p>
<p>“It will be a hard job,” Porte said after the stage, “and Landa will be a very dangerous opponent – even though my teammate Siutsou was the strongest man of the field today. I feel good, I have a very solid condition, and this win gives me a further boost: I know the Giro [d’Italia] will be a different story, but I have already beaten both Contador and Urán this season. I have stepped up a level in 2015, probably because I am paying more attention to alimentation: one more victory tastes so much better than one more beer.”</p>
<p>Thursday’s 183.8-kilometer stage from Ala to Fierozzo will offer another mountainous test for the Giro del Trentino peloton.</p>
