The June issue of Velo magazine recaps all of the big stories from the spring classics.
The spring classics are over, and the June issue of Velo magazine features everything you’ll need to experience the races all over again.
In this month’s VeloNotes, we address rider safety and how the peloton is bonding together to protect each other after a tumultuous spring that saw extreme heat in Oman, a snowy summit finish in Italy, and poorly marked hazards on the roads of Spain.
Andrew Hood takes you through John Degenkolb’s (Giant-Alpecin) emphatic win at Paris-Roubaix, as the German captured one of the most coveted prizes in professional cycling: the Roubaix stone.
Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) confirmed his prowess as one of cycling’s next classics kings by tearing through the Belgian spring. Catch up on the Norwegian’s rise to the top and what he has to say to those skeptical of his performance.
The Velo tech crew spends time out on the road and in the lab with four new ride-ready endurance road bikes, testing some of the latest technology to hit the road — including disc brakes.
The second half of the spring classics is filled with pavement, but victory doesn’t come easy. The hard and hilly racing of Ardennes week reveals the true champions of the sport, but not without the glimmer of the champions to come.
On the road, Caley Fretz takes a ride in the Mavic support vehicle on the busiest day of the year for that crew, Paris-Roubaix. Experience the thrill of cobbles from inside the caravan.
The June issue looks at the day in the life of Zdenek Stybar (Etixx-Quick-Step) at the Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders). From reconnaissance riding and pinning on numbers to being disappointed with a top-five finish, Velo’s photographers were with Stybar every step of the way.
Also, the ageless Luca Paolini turned back the clock as he overcame the blustery winds of Belgium to win a legendary edition of Gent-Wevelgem. The Italian, one of the last links from the golden era, talks about how winning is more that using just your legs, but your heart and head as well.
Finally, Dan Wuori discusses the changing of the guard atop the spring classics hierarchy in At The Back.
Enjoy these stories and much more in the June issue of Velo magazine. This year’s classics season was one for the ages, so don’t miss out; pick up your copy today.
