Viscount BB refreshed with mallet and lumber!

The old Viscount was getting crunchy below, even though some thoughtful
soul before me had replaced the offending bearings in question with a
lovely set of Fafnirs and a Campy SS axle.

Bike shop quoted me 20usd per side parts + labour. Eek. Not bad, but more
dough than the old girl's worth.

So for those of you who have a Viscount with the press fit BB, here's the
drill for cheapskates like me:

Go to your local industrial ball bearing center and get two sealed 6003
size bearing. Should cost 3-5usd each.

Remove cranks.

Remove circlips.

soak both sides with some penetrating lubricant ala wd40.

Support the frame with a professional style metal milk crate.

Protecting axle with a block of Park Wood, apply firm and satisfying
whacks with your choice of big heavy tool, until it is free of BB.

Make sure to take at least 30 minutes doing this and curse colourfully as
you are a sailor and it is within your right.

Remove bearings with appropriate screwdriver, mallet and smaller whacks.

Clean and reassemble:

Using Park Wood to protect, install bearings with moderate whack.

Lightly grease axle, and install with firm blows, using a fresh block of
Park Wood if the first has begun to splinter.

Reinstall circlips, cranks and other bits that don't seem to belong in
your toolbox, gaffer tape can be helpful for this.

Feel proud as you are a cheap and handy *******.

I don't know anything about the Viscount, but I love this piece of advice.
