Liberty have a strong team in theory, although this years TDF performances wouldn't rate Heras and Beloki very highly. Discovert have a strong line up too, looking for all three grand tours this year maybe.

Discos team maybe strong , but they have no one capable of winning a GT.Not by a long shot in that 9.They might have someone like Azevedo or Danileson in the Amarillo for a few days early , but they wont be in the top 10 at the end.
Mancebo is my tip.If he doesnt win it , some other Spaniard will.

I suppose it's bad of me to want something to happen to either one or two of the T-Mo riders so that Bas and Christian can go to the Vuelta. Especially Christian, since he's no longer going to be a member of T-Mo after this year.

But then again, I was happy when Juan Gone got hurt so Grady Sizemore could play center. /baseball

Valverde is not there. But anyway, Vuelta is preatty strong. I guess stronger than last year...

Big big shame about Valverde , he would have really ritzed the field up.

Id like to see Botero go well after his relatively poor Tour , and funnily enough id like to see Gibo Simoni mix it up even though hes a little gobshyte.

As expected, very strong Liberty squad. Very strong (relative to other teams) Phonak squad. Wonder how much the Phonak team choice has to do with Phonak trying to win the team Protour competition, and needing their three best riders esp in the mountains and time trials to do that (Landis, Perreiro, Botero).

Not surprisingly, Saiz has brought Nozal back despite Nozal's drug testing levels around the time of the Tour.

nteresting Bruyneel is not going to have Popo build up experience as team leader. Maybe Popo is worried that he will do poorly and lose some of the sheen from the TdF Best Young Rider designation. Presumably, choice of Classics team members L Hoste and S Devolder signals these cyclists being considered for stage races more as well as their Classics emphasis. Devolder is getting a lot of appreciation on the team, and is Demol's protege of sorts. Interesting both made the team over Barry. It's not surprising that Joachim made it over Barry, though, given that Joachim and Hoste were the "backups" for the 05 TdF team (more Joachim) after Eki got injured. Also, Joachim in 04 and VHP were named as the two TdF backups, and lost out to Padrnos and Noval.

Interesting Euskatel does not have Zubeldia.

Also, I wonder why Sevilla is not the first person listed x1 number, as leader, for TM. I believe he will function in that role, as TM promised him. Zabel at least gets Aldag.

The Quickstep dynamic will be interesting, with Bettini and Boonen.

Chechu is not riding the Vuelta; M Barry is subbing for him. DC confirms that Ace is the leader of the team, although it sounds like Danielson will have a bit of wiggle room.

Very interesting situation, since Bruyneel has been trying to encourage Ace to take on greater leadership responsibilities. My sense is that Ace was pretty happy being super-domestique to LA. Query how he will transition to greater responsibilities as he will be looked to more for leadership of some events (although definitey not sole leadership of the TdF, of course).

In an International Herald Tribune article on life after LA retirement, Bruyneel says that Popo and Paolo are leaders on the team. "Maybe Azevedo too, with a bit more freedom...."

http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/06/08/sports/BIKE.php

Ace probably won't win the GC, but he has a podium chance.

A very close race for the UCI Pro Tour teams competition, with the top two teams both interested in winning that designation and separated by 1 point, with Vuelta and after that only one more Pro Tour event to go:

"1 PHO PHONAK HEARING SYSTEMS SWITZERLAND 286
2 CSC TEAM CSC DENMARK 285
3 DVL DAVITAMON-LOTTO BELGIUM 281
4 RAB RABOBANK NETHERLANDS 277
5 SDV SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR SPAIN 253
6 LSW LIBERTY SEGUROS - WÜRTH TEAM SPAIN 239
7 TMO T-MOBILE TEAM GERMANY 224
8 C.A CREDIT AGRICOLE FRANCE 222
9 GST GEROLSTEINER GERMANY 217
10 DSC DISCOVERY CHANNEL PRO CYCLING TEAM UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 217
11 FAS FASSA BORTOLO ITALY 210"

Positions 7 through 11 are separated by 14 points only. Presumably, DC will at least want to stay within the top ten.
