walking the coast

Hi Roger

I've only walked the Minehead to Bude section in the north, so can
only advise on that. I'd recommend extending northwards past Bude if
you can, as between there and Hartland Point is one of the most
stunning and remote bits of the SWCP I've seen yet (albeit one of the
hardest too!).

As to B&B's, don't know if these are still going as it was a couple of
years back:

In Bude we stayed in the Fairway Guest House (http://
www.fairwayguesthouse.co.uk/), one of the poshest B&B's we've found on
the trail (filter coffee in the rooms, along with loads of other
"freebies"!)

We stayed at the Hartland Quay Hotel (http://
www.hartlandquayhotel.com/), as I think most coast path walkers do
(simply because there's little else on this stretch of coast) - pretty
reasonable prices too considering the stunning location (there can't
be many other places like this in Britain!).

At Clovelly we stayed at Pillowery Park (http://
www.clovellyaccommodation.com/) - a long way up the hill from the
village, but with one of the friendliest proprietors and most powerful
showers of any of the B&B's we used! Superb breakfasts too.

Further on than you're likely to go on this trip, but so good it has
to be mentioned, is the Myrtle Cottage Bed and Big Breakfast at
http://www.myrtleporlock.co.uk/breakfast.htm. The best breakfasts of
all the places we've stayed in on the SWCP (possibly anywhere) plus
disturbingly slanted bedrooms in an ancient thatched cottage.

Roger - nice website by the way - found the height gain stats
especially useful, I will be checking back next time we have time to
do a bit of the coast.
