What sort of people are you after ?

I'm kind-of interested, but

(a) never raced before, and
(b) don't own a mountain bike

Assuming I can negotiate my way around (b), what skill level are you looking for? - My usual riding
is a gentle tourng pace occasionally shouting at the kids to stop fighting in the bloody trailer.

How many vistalight night-sticks do you need for 24 hours ?!

How many laps do you reckon I'd make on one of those $99 bikes from Big-w ?:)

Actually, more seriously, what sort of mountain biking skills are required for this sort of thing? I
ride dirt roads occasionally, but that's VF-far from technical mountain biking skills.

There's nearly a kilometre of ~ 10% grade that's followed by some 400(?) metres of 20% singletrack
back downhill.

Should I be scared or excited?!

The last time I encountered a 20% grade, it took both of us to push the (touring loaded + trailer)
bike to the top of it.

Hmmm... what if it's muddy ;)

I'm thinking of doing it solo. Am I insane?

My hand is raised. I'm not fast. With no team myself, I was considering a solo effort. I'm a
Canberra resident, 40 something, regular rider with good fitness and skills - but more inclined to
survival than racing.

I don't know - how many people give you weird looks on a daily basis?

If it's muddy we found out who can really ride and who are the pseudo racers who train on road
bikes.......

maybe, but don't worry the web site says that you'll have 40(insane) solo mates

"They say 1 in 5 people are insane, check with 4 mates, if it aint them, its you!!"
