War between UCI and Grand Tours

Whoa. A declaration of war, nothing less. The federations "... deplore the UCIs efforts to lessen the importance of cycling monuments... express their deep disagreement with UCI work... the attempts to support the Pro Tour exclusively... and feel that a great divide has come about between the UCI and the national federations..."

Pat McQuaid cancelled his trip to participate in the meeting after reading the press release.

Maybe they will really can him and move on? Or create an alternative 'UCI'?

A total idiot must be a governor if he thinks that T of Poland or T of Germany is equivalent to Giro or Vuelta. Has he ever attended at least one of those four races.
UCI is losing its credibility from day to day.
Fuc* the Fu**ing UCI president...

Zabel said about the UCI last month, maybe some heads should roll...

Just a side note. Gatlin is looking at the NFL as being a possible football running back.
Maybe Landis can move into soccer. Soccer is clean, isn't it?

No not an idiot. A genius!

If they can undermine the Giro to the benefit of and promotion in popularity of Tours of Germany and Poland, well then the UCI will hold a more powerful hand in case the GTs break away

Maybe some OP riders can join their new soccer friends met in Fuentes' clinic.

It would be foolish to underestimate McQuaid.

Yes, the idea of trying to diminish the status of the GT's looks like stupidity.
But is promoting the Tours of Germany and Poland, in itself stupid?
Only if their promotion comes at the expense of diminishing the GT's.

If I was asked to guess (and having been trained by McQuaid for over 5 years),
I'd say Pat is trying to hedge his bets.
He knows that the GT's oppose the UCI's line on Puerto - and he's probably surmising that some sort of breakaway is in the offing.

If Pat was really smart he would be trying to promote all national tours, without trying to diminish any existing races.
But then that would be too logical!

My sources say the chances that there will be a split are growing every day. The parties are not really willing to compromize...

Well, after that kind of press release it really does not look like the national federations want to play anymore.
