Warped Truvativ Elita Chainrings

Hi,

I have a Dawes Discovery with a 52/42/30 Triple Truvativ Chainset.

Unfortunately, a minor accident has left the rings a little warped -
Does anyone know where I can get replacement rings? Does any other
company make compatible rings of good standard (but not too expensive)
?

I'd rather not get a whole new chainset, as it's very expensive!

I have tried straightening the rings, and it's helped a bit, but I
still think new rings would help more :)

Many thanks,
Mark.

Rings; you need to measure the Pitch Circle Diameter of the fixing bolts,
and the number of bolts. From the SRAM website, they say the current
Truvativ triple touring set is 74mm + 130mm 5-arm fixing, both very standard
sizes.

So, one option for very good rings are TA; a full set should leave you
change from £80 (assuming under £30 for the middle and larger, and under £20
for the smaller).

Complete chainsets; try Spa cycles at Harrogate (ring them, their website
seems to have only a small fraction of what they carry), who advertise in
the CTC magazine regularly. The often have options for cheaper chainsets.

Before deciding on rings or chainset, you could do with deciding if its the
rings or the spider which has been damaged. If its rings, I'd expect damage
should only be one unless it was a very strange incident.

Also, give thought as to whether you want to change the gearing; slightly
lower (such as 28,38,48) has its advantages on touring bikes if you rarely
use the highest gears.

Except the OP's subject has them down as "Elita", which according to
the Sram website are 64mm and 104mm.

Which is to say standard "MTB" 4-arm stuff and should be available from
all good bikes shops, most **** ones and major branches of WH Smith.

Or something.

All of them? That is not a small accident.

Most local bike shops. TA is the usual good choice, although not the
cheapest. Some shops could probably get Truvativ rings for you.

My LBS has/had a tool for straightening bent chainrings. You never
know perhaps your LBS can do a better job than you can.

A complete set of individual rings are often more expensive than a new
chainset. If it's just the big one that's gone, then probably worth
replacing. You don't need the same brand, just the same bolt circle
diameter and (obviously) the same number of holes. Specialites TA is a
goof brand.

You can get the rings flat, if you have a vice by taking the rings off the
chainset, using a flat surface to see the high spots and then carefully
clamping the ring in the vice and bending with a big adjustable spanner.

Or take it to a decent LBS who will do much the same thing, but with
confidence and flair.
