As far as rebuilding and maintenance, I suggest that you invest $20 - $30 in a good bicycle maintenance and repair manual.

I have already invested in kdelong's suggested book back on the second or third page of this thread. Thanks for your suggestion. By the way, in case there are those of you who don't know, Sheldon Brown's site has a plethora of knowledge and wisdom gained from his and others' experiences. Check it out. It might replace a maintenance and repair manual...maybe.
