Watching TdF Prologue

It's probably been asked *months* ago but as I will be in London
(going by train) on the day Saturday 7th, I thought I might try to see
some of the prologue. I appreciate it will be absolutely *mad* in
terms of crowds but it'd be a pity to miss the opportunity. My
question is where, if anywhere, will I be able to see anything?

Hyde park is probably the best place. Giant screens are being
errected.

You can stay at home to watch it on the telly. Would be a shame not to see
any actual live action.

I'm heading for Constitution Hill, chance of seeing some action, but big
screen nearby.
It should be a bit of a party! I just hope we can get up early enough
for the off on Sunday (might head for Tower Bridge)

Where I'd have the choice of watching Live Earth, British Grand Prix,
Tour de France or toddling off to Duxford to see the Flying Legends
airshow and Glacier Girl
(http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.4695&navId=00d007)

I'll be at Hyde Park and daughters at Wembley but why do they have to
put them all on the same weekend?

If you register for one of the 28 LCC rides from the London Boroughs
you will be given a wist band allowing you access to their viewing
platform on Hyde Park Corner.

http://www.johnballcycling.org.uk/photos/hpc

The orange dotted line is the outward and return prologue route
through HPC, the blue line shows the LCC's area and they will be
constructing a viewing platform there.

Numbers are restricted to 2,500 and priority is being given to "new
and returning" cyclists, so registering may be difficult at this late
stage.

The race doesn't start until the Prime Meridian in Greenwich. From
Central London to Greenwich the Tour is on parade.

You get a really good look at the riders in the neutralised zone

Re. partying afterwards, Rapha are organising a ride to London Fields,
starting at 7pm.

I'm suggesting gathering in Southwark PArk, SE London,
for a picnic and the Event, which is a local music festival.

Hmmm, that looks like a "no-way out" zone ... You'll be trapped ...

I believe it is, though Tom can confirm this.
I thought that you had to be in place before the prologue, and stay
there till it is over.
However, saying that I read somewhere that temporary bridges are being
constructed. So if (and I say if) there is a pedestrian bridge you would
be able to leave.
Tom?

Four bridges are being put in place. There are also a number of
temporary crossing points, though they close at 12.45.

This is an excellent map - www.johnballcycling.org.uk/files/map - it
clearly shows the crossing points and the sweep around Hyde Park
Corner.

I'll be driving through France with my daughter! Funny how it worked
out that we would have to go to France the weekend of the tour being
in Britain, and it goes past the end of our road too, I could have
taken a cup of tea up to the main road and watched it go past!!
