We keep hearing about cyclists getting killed
by drunk drivers but what we don't hear about
is drunk cyclists that kill drivers when that
are cycling drunk and having sex with there
gay partner on there little bike.

offending cyclists (drunk or not) almost always
gets off with a small slap on the hand
    because most cyclists are GAY.

This [censored] has gone out of his way to find a cycling forum and call us
cyclists gay. Just think about how staggering that is. How sad? I
    feel sorry for the bloke.

    Gay (proper definition) means happy.

    Cyclist means happy.

    Perfect correlation. 🙂

We had an outdoor movie theater here in town that was named the Gay Theater.
The name never had any connotations at all when I was a kid. It was named
after the owner whose first name was Gaylord. The thing I hate most about
homos is how they have ruined perfectly good words like gay.

And now for some serious business. What are you doing playing around with
your user name? I believe you are having an identity crisis in your life and
I want you to know that I am here to counsel you. I will set you on the
strait and narrow and you will finally find out who you really are.

I think all this "sunset" business has deranged you - and your name is not
Johnny, it is Tommy. I suspect however that your real name is Thomas. Maybe
you should go back to that if you are indeed a mature gentleman of the world
and not a poor lost lamb who is wandering in the wilderness.

How does this look to you:

    Sigh, another dummy Canadian!

If I had been God I would have devised a different means of reproduction.
However, given what is, I would have made it so that reproduction was only
possible at very rare intervals. There is no point in having the kind of
reproduction which we presently have. Mother earth is groaning under the
weight of all this human reproduction.

Anyone who is not disgusted by all the human reproduction that is going on
is nutty as a fruit cake. Even the chimpanzees have more sense that do we
    humans.

Tom Keats is certainly right about BC. A more forlorn group hardly exists. A
nut case there by the name of DD (Disco Duck) dominates that so called
newsgroup with nothing but idiotic messages about helmets. He even advocates
that one should break the law regulating their use. A greater scoundrel
hardly exists. I made short work of him, but he is an idiot so I had to
    leave him to himself finally.

Tom Keats and Fab are truly on the same level. I suggest that you read
either of these two in any quantity and you will quickly decide that they
both have one thing in common - they are one note Johnnies. Same old
subjects and same old lame brain musings. The best thing that ever happened

Who is this Don Cool? It is hard to imagine that anyone on a newsgroup could
ever approach my originality, let alone my Greatness.

Amazing! We have a street here in town that is named Strait Avenue. I have
been going up and down it all my life. I wonder if that street has been
misspelled as there are no waterways around here. Most likely, it was named
after some gentleman by the name of Strait.

That reminds me, I have this obsession about building a bicycle with
ISO 203-mm wheels, a Rohloff rear hub and SON front hub. I would need
    really short spokes. 😉

"Busted" rear axles - are you using freewheels? Whatever else one
thinks about Shimano, moving the bearing nearer to the end of the axle
in their freehubs has almost eliminated bent rear axles.

Yup, all my bikes are hand-me-downs and fixer-uppers.
I've broken a few axles in my day. I guess I obey
stop signs too much. When I resume, I seem to apply
a lot of torque -- I frequently find myself popping
unintentional, annoying little wheelies. Y'know how
when you've been lifting or carrying a lot of weight,
and then you go to pick up a glass of water and it's
a lot lighter than you expected? I think it's the
same effect, only in the legs. I really should try
to remind myself to be gentler on the drivetrain.

    cheers,

Since the foo foo crowd (where are you Fabrizio Mazzoleni?) has

there would be plenty of used 7 and 8-speed used components (including

If that were the case, my repentence would be wasted, and
I might as well carry on like Ed the Grate.

But I'm sure nobody wants that, so I won't. I'm sure he will.

Anyways, I noticed my Raleigh Twenty has all these stylized
bird's heads emblazoned all over it. Decals, head badge, and
fretworked into the shiny, like-new chainwheel, c/w little
eyes embossed in the bird's heads.

At first glance I thought it looked like a crested ibis and
I thought: "Hey, that's really cool!" But after some research
    I learned it's just a plain-jane heron. But I guess that's
apropos for a Raleigh -- hard to get started, and rather
plodding ... not ugly, and not particularly pretty. But kind
    of interesting.

And I think it's classier than Cadillac's ducks.

I dunno if they still make bike components with such
wonderful artwork in them. I hope so. But in these
automated, CNC days I rather doubt it. The only other
thing I have that comes close is some Maxy crankset
stuff with the letter 'M' fretworked in it.

Also, the rubber treads of the shiny chromed-cage pedals
have the visage of Sir Walter Raleigh, in raised relief.

    cheers,
    Tom

    Hmmm. See <http://www.heronbicycles.com/>.

For what its worth, there are plenty of great blue herons along the
Illinois River, which is only a few hundred meters from where Heron

Alas, such "modern" stuff is hard to come by here, in freebies.
Actually, here there are still plenty of Japanese Bike Boom
bikes still seeing regular service. Especially Apollos and
Sekines, with those lugged steel frames and horizontal dropouts
so coveted by fixed-gear afficianados. I find them all over
town, set out with people's trash. Since Vancouver is a port
city, andCanada had her own trade agreements back then, we're
blessed with lots of vintage off-shore imports.

No, I stand when I'm stopped. When I go again, I tend to
mash real hard with my lead foot still in the pedal,
perch back onto the saddle, stick my other foot in the
other pedal/toeclip, start really seriously pedalling,
and the front end sometimes does this little hop.

I don't break a /lot/ of axles. Maybe three in the last
two decades. But I think I now recognize with certainty
the sound/feel of them when they break. I've found that
even after they're broken, they can still stay together
enough to keep going for a while, at least until I start
    monkeying with them.

What repentance? It gives me no satisfaction that you admit to being an
