Saddle's been squeaking for months now.
Tried everything I could think of.
Squeak persists.
Take weight off saddle, squeak goes away.
Today, in some frustration, I pulled the post/saddle for one more once-over.
Took off my little Jan Sport tool wedge and.... WTF!!!!????... There's a hole in
the seat post! Well, not quite a hole.... but worn through so there's just a
little aluminum foil left on the inside.
Looks like it was worn by the tool wedge just rubbing back-and-forth there
mile-after-mile - like for 3 years.
Now that I'm think of it, I went through this with an alu boat trailer. There
was a length of heavy braided line laying on a frame member and it just wore a
hole though it after a few thousand miles.
I'm guessing the post is toast.
Being relatively intolerant of nasty surprises, I'm swapping it out. If the
squeak goes away all the better.
Lesson learned:
When alu is involved, inspect carefully for contact with other things and tape
where appropriate. I'm thinking maybe a little red electrical tape, a shim of
clear plastic bottle, and a little black electrical tape on top. You see red,
you got a problem....
Anybody got an SOP that's known to work?
