    This is my first week ever on a road bike, (14-16mph) Cycling.

    Congratulations on a great start!

    I'd suggest not taking the calorie counts too seriously; Most devices (heart rate monitors, bike computers) significantly overestimate actually calories used (especially since they can't measure actual calorie output directly).

    A more meaningful number to track at this point would be time on bike.

    One thing you can also do to track your progress (if you're so inclined) is to find a benchmark stretch (perhaps a climb with no traffic lights/stops) and periodically measure the time it takes you to traverse it at your hardest effort.

    Good tips! I am partly looking at calories as weight loss, as that is part of my motivation. I am 205 pounds so I burn more than a lean 145 pound biker. I think....
