I commute from Westlake to Brisbane and back. The bike paths are pretty
good and I manage to keep out of the traffic most of the way. It's 21 K's
each way from my place and I reckon it's only about half way to Springfield
heading West from Brisbane. That's a big commute.

I live in Graceville (Western Suburbs). Springfield Lakes is WAY out.
There have been some Qld Road C'ships held out there. I commuted from
G'ville to Wacol second half of this year and that was 14k each way. I
would have much preferred to commute the opposite way into town. I may
be wrong but I think it would be difficult to get onto lightly-traficked
streets and that the more heavily-trafficked ones would be a bit fast and
dangerous as far as the cars go. I recall a highway-type road leading
out there.

You don't say whatt type of riding you are looking for.
If it is touuring style riding, there is a back road into
Ipswich. Many good rides can be based on there. Check out

Thanks heaps for that. I was after some roads to ride on.

I drove along the road that joins Springfield with Greenbank, and it was ok, however, if you were coming the other way (Greenbank to Springfield) there is a gutter all the way, which looks a little annoying.

I've never really done much riding in the western burbs, beyond Yeronga (river ride).
