i am looking forward to starting to ride i haven't ridden a bike in years and don't know what to buy. i will mostly be riding in highway but don't think i am ready for a racing bike. any information will be helpfull.

You could get a performance hybrid? I work at a bike shop, and we have some bikes called "performance hybrids" which are basically road bikes (skinny 700c wheels) with MTB components (tougher, more durable) and a flat bar. Geometry is performance oriented (as opposed to relaxed, like most hybrids) so they are awesome commuters.

I suggest trying lots of different bikes if you have access to more than one bike shop. That way you can pick what feels best to you. Been riding a long time and have found this to be the best way to decide.
