Well i guess if this threed is going to post rides it best if we know where every one rides. I ride near brisbane 1.5hrs away actually. so my rides are also near the sunshine coast.

where do all the other ozzies ride? ???

Nic, have you ever had trouble with traffic around where you ride? Reading the 'Current Affair' discussion between Admin and Redhendren, I got a funny feeling in my stomach about Brisbane and cyclists.

Melbourne, here. Sometimes four seasons in the one day. You have the best weather up there, Nicholas. Close to the beach too? Cheers.

hrmm best weather, best beaches but the worst drivers
Seems someone nearly gets killed up there daily

na Vo2 im 80ks from brisbane. but i have not ever had a horrible car story in my 1yr so far of road biking. my dad once had a incident but i never saw it. only a few yells and screams once in a blue moon. Obviously in brisbane more people = more chance of confrentaion.

actually iv only had two incidents and they where with pedestrians near and in brisbane.

one drunk bloke tried to run into me with his XXXX(beer) in his hand ??? ::)

and another spat at me (but missed thankfully)

actually the riding here is very pleasant ;D ;D ;D , just cover yourself with sunscreen every where. which i did not do properly the other day and now i look like a TOMATO ;D ;D
30+ . the UV rays here are 14+ often.

hey Redhendren how are you going?

Nicholas

I ride Brisbane, Ipswich and Gold Coast. Mostly Ipswich, Peak Crossing, Boonah, Rosewood and Walloon areas at the moment. Good bunch of riders up there.

Gold Coast is getting spookier and I will be thinking long and hard about when I ride there again.

Sunshine Coast is all foreign to me for rides. :D

I've heard "Around The Bay In A Day" can be like that. Wasn't the case though in the 2000 ride. Great buzz that!

Pleased that you had a good day. I take my hat off to 'most anyone who does the Around the Bay in a Day ride. Do the recumbents sweep through the field? Or the Pro's start off at dawn?

No grading goes on. Starts at first light or there abouts. Up over the Westgate Bridge with police escort. Big packs of 180+ form and off you go towards Geelong and Queenscliff to catch the ferry. 600+ cyclists on a ferry. Total field gets to around 5000. Claims to be the biggest ride in the Southern Hemisphere. Recumbents didn't see any but not surprising ;)

The ferry ride sounds lekker! 8)
The Argus Cycle Tour is the biggest timed single day cycle race in the Southern Hemisphere and the World - approx. 35 000 cyclists. ;)

I'm intrigued. Maybe I could finish this event. Hmmm, what time is the last ferry? Seriously, it sounds like hard work but fun. So how do you store 600 bikes on a car ferry without them getting tangled and scratched?
Have you ever seen a 'photo of a Dutch bike park? All the bikes look the same! Hey - that's mine over there! Er, no, must be this one over here. Ummm...
Nowadays there are mountain bikes in Holland, so maybe all bicycles in China look the same? You won't catch me commuting on a bike with rod-operated stirrup brakes!

Apparently a 4 wd wagon failed to give way to the Queenscliff Steam Loco, couple of years ago, on a level crossing. He got the bill for minor repairs where he hit the coal tender! Fair Dinkum. Should be a minimum I.Q. to drive one of those wagons.

I second that, but would apply it to all cars, trucks, motorbikes and bicycles :)

hey redhendren so are you into track racing ,road racing or both?., do you race?.i just started 4 months ago im in B grade at the moment.

Im sticking to road racing as i like it best. costs to much for a track bike :). considering id have to drive half an hour to get to it :)

I'm into both with a preference for road. The track has definately improved my leg speed. The track is the place to learn to ride a bike. I'm up in Vets 4. ;D

yes i agree track would be benificial. is your club having many races on lately? mine is having only 1 race a month. the next is a crit . i suck at criteriums :D.

Track season ends soon. Road takes over in March. Yes we only had one road race per month last year but you move around to other clubs for the other three weekends. Thats the only way the clubs can keep going at the moment. Crits are very popular but like you I will have to develop a liking for them. Maybe 2003! :D

I live in Brisbane and I'd like to clear a few things up.
Yes - the drivers here suck! They have no clue sometimes.
One day they'll run a cyclist off, turn around to laugh and realise it was their sister or something.
They winge when you ride on the road, the winge when you footpath.
Well, until hoverbikes are invented.....

Riding the roads in inner bris scares the life outta me, I'd rather downhill with no brakes quite frankly.

roKeMs

I ride in the Brissie Hills btw

hi rockems have you riden up mt nebo & glorious? iv riden them on one of the hardest roads ride iv done 215k. it is really amazing how the surroundings change.
