Hey Simple question, what bikes you people ride?

For my X-C Riding......I have an Orange E8 on Full XTR with X-lite Stems, Handlebars and Seat post. Wheels are Mavic 317's on panaracer tyres. And my back side sits on a Selle Italia Pro Link Saddle.

For my Road Riding......... I have a Ridley Icarus....Its made of Columbus Airplane tubing. Ridley seem to be doing well in the cyclo-cross. Its on Record. Wheels are Mavic CXP33's. Stem and handle bars are ITM Millenium. The saddles a Selle Italia Flite. Im currently waiting for that carbon Record crank, it's still not out here yet in UK.

For bumming around town, I have a folding Fuji mtn. bike, got it from Marlboro, when I used to smoke.
For touring, a Giant Cypress, changed bar and added rapid-fire shifters.
For century rides, a Trek 1000 (red,white and blue, of course!)
Then I have a Schwinn tempo, my cousin found in the alley behind his house, with the serial numbers ground off. I fixed it up added aero-bars, bar-end shifters, use this mostly on the trainer.
But let my nephew ride it, when he comes with me on centuries.

I have an '03 Santa Cruz Heckler built up for all-around clydesdale fun. Z-1 QR 20 FR, full XT (discs, cranks, etc) Sun/Ringle' Singlewide rims, easton bits, blah, blah, blah...

I slide around town sometimes on a Dino (GT basically) cruiser. It's one of the "funky" retro grouch cruisers. I have not done much to it, but replace the stock ape hanger bars with some extreeeem ape hangers and an old style set-back bmx seat post. It has a weird internally geared hub and drum brakes. Not exactly high performance, but a kick to ride with the Mrs.

My ol' lady has a vintage Scwinn (chrome springers, fenders, tanks, etc). We are trying to find a cool basket for it that works with the springer fork and how it sticks out weird. I'm always jealous that everyone comments on her bike and not mine! Maybe I'll steal her bike, you think she'd notice?

On the road - Trek Y-Foil, Campy Chorus group. Quick, comfortable, wild looking. Rolf wheels if I want to go fast, Campy Zonda if I want to go far. Still trying out saddles...

With the wife: older Cannondale tandem. Suntour group. Handles like a truck, but sure holds a fast pace, and not at all uncomfortable.

Around the farm: Trek Y22. Dated design, but inexpensive and cooks on the fast downhill sections. Mostly XT/XTR, depending on what broke last week.

I ride a Ritchey SwissCross bike 3-4 times a week on my commute into San Francisco. Outfitted with lights and soon to be set up with fenders.

Weekend bike is a Merlin Agilus with the DA Triple group and Chris King hubs. Need the triple ring here in the SF Bay Area.

For triathlons I have a 650c bike. Frame made by a tandem company Meridian up in OR

I have a Ritchey rigid Mt bike for putting around on.

I ride with a blind friend on a Armet 100 Bilenky road tandem.

For family rides I will take the girls (Jaci-6, Gabi-4) out on the Santana Triplet. Both the rear stoker positions are set up with Kiddie Stoker kits so they are required to pedal and coast with me. We are up to riding 20 miles at a time with no complaining. Jaci can easily ride 40-50 miles with a couple breaks to keep her from getting bored.

I don't know that I would agree with the 'need' the triple in the bay area. I've yet to find a paved road here that requires one - but to each his own...

I had a Serotta Colorado I bought new in 1988 7 speed Dura Ace it was stolen in Sept. So I ordered a Seven Alaris custom it will have Campy Chorus it should ship today from the east coast.
Also own a Pro Flex 856 MTB.
By the way if you have electric garage opener made sure your garage door goes all the way down before you leave.

Intense Spider full XTR with a Manitou Minute 3 for XC racing. An Intense Uzzi SLX with a Marzocchi Z1 for all around fun, abuse, heavy duty trail bike, and light downhill.
Finallly the LOOK Kx road bike with dura ace 9 group.

Schwinn Mesa GS MTB...rarely used these days. Needs a new wheelset....winter project?Perhaps.

for riding on the bike path w/my kid: 1960 denault three speed-found it abandoned and rebuilt it...also commute on this-made it a single speed.
for mountain biking: kona cindercone-last year it was a made of cromoly steel.
for winter road: raleigh r600, shimano 105
Most of the time: colnago classic w/chorus group-built up from scratch!

for off road it's a 1994 Kona Hei Hei, after nearly 10yrs it rides like new, the last 2 yrs have seen a major up grade to almost full XTR, all except the Middleburn cranks (XTR rings) anf Suntour XP Pro thumb shifters, the thumbies are 9 yrs old and never miss a shift, I puchased a spare pair when i got these, and there still in the box (a classic in its own time).
for road I currently use my winter/training bike either in the turbo or when i brave the elements, its a Kenisis frame, recently fitted ITM Millenium full carbon fork, with 105 gruppo, (r/h lever covers always rattles) its a good ride, and always there when I need it,
Sunday best race days and club runs, well untill recently it was a Trek 5500 with DA and Kysriums, this after 3yrs faultles service has gome to make way for a Trek Madone 5.9 with new 10spd DA Kysruim SL's and full ITM carbon Unika/Uniko finishing kit, hopefully should see this just before Christmas.
Cant wait for the 1st ride, a dry crisp winters Sunday
I've enjoyed taking the time to make my choices and parts and frame as much as I will riding it.

How do you find the hillbrick?

I'm trying to decide bewteen a hillbrick custom and an orbea at the moment,

For the record at the moment I ride a Giant OCR3 with campag proton wheels for road

And i've got a Giant AC2 for free ride and trials

I'm currently trying to figure out how to afford a nice carbon/Al frame with Chorus !!!

There's a few custom frame makers around Sydney , Hillbrick, Kerry Hopkins , Evans. All well made , strong and nicely finished , just plain ol steel tube (way of the future!)
Ride is really smooth , not as light as a newer alloy bike, but much better ride IMO.
Nothing hi-tech about my bike , just feels really comfortable to ride and seems well balanced.
I bought the bike second hand , fortunately the frame was right size .
I've also owned a Kerry Hopkins , a magnificent bike which was brutally attacked by a station wagon one morning at 5.00am.
If I win Lotto , I'll buy an 835 steel Hopkins.
I also like the fact that , the bike's made in Australia. Something you rarely see among bikes.
I checked out a giant once . I liked the shape of the frame , it was big , but because of the angled top rail it didn't seem so , and was light alloy . Nice bike.

For the road I have a TIME VX Pro w/record 10 and a Cannondale R2000si w/Ultegra. For the trails I have an old C-dale Killer V 900 converted to a single-speed with the original Pepperoni fork and a Fisher Supercaliber w/XTR.

(1) Road Bike

Pinarello Sestriere, italian racing red frame, steel, fitted with Campagnolo Shamal wheels, a mixture of Campag components...Record hubs, Chorus rings & sprockets, Veloce brakes & derailleurs, Selle Italia Oktavia saddle, Polar S710 HRM, Look pedals, ITM posts/bars, Conti gatorskin tires, Sidi shoes & at the moment wear Nike bibknix with Lotto-Adecco or yellow Pinarello jersey. I'm about to buy the full red Pinarello bibs & jersey.

(2) MTB

Giant Rincon 2000 white/grey/black aluminium with Shimano groupset, Shimano spd pedals - use it mostly for socialising with other mtb friends, bike paths, country trails, cafe's...

(3) Heap-o-junk

I think it was a Raleigh 12 speed, rather old, uses Shimano bits, picked up for $30 at a local junk shop & carelessly made rideable and slapped lots of cherry red paint on it to make it look better than the fluro orange/yellow it came in. The back wheel has a broken spoke & is buckled, the brakes barely work, the tyres are cracked & perished, only 1 gear works properly without chain-slip. But dammit, this little beauty of a bike carries me the 5km to and from work in the city every day and I lock it to a bike-pole in the shopping mall I work in & there it sits all day, untouched by would-be thieves & vandals who take one look at it and just laugh & go wreck or steal the shiny bike parked next to it. It has been dubbed 'Ploddarello' because it dont go too fast & has a home-made sticker of that name on the down tube. 2 years without a service and going strong!
