    On the bike:
    Multitool (crank brothers 19)
    Puncture repair kit (for tubeless)
Some Duct Tape (just a couple of meters rolled on a small core)

On my Camelback (may change depending on the trip)
    Water (2-3 lts)
    Food (bars and some gels)
A leaterman tool (not too big not the mini)
Tie raps (those plastic ties great to some quick fixes)
Pump (on that works for tires & suspension)
    I.D.
    Money
Mobile phone and sometimes a radio (motorola talkabout)
    GPS
Multi purpose paper (toilet paper - do not want to lost my socks anymore)
One of those towels packed in a really small package (almost "dehidrated" given in an event)
A shower cap from a hotel bathroom (great to cover the helmet during rain)
    Lamp (LED head lamp)
Space blanket (can be used as a huge trash bag).
A small emergency kit (from aspirin to some bandages)
    Sun screen (never used)
A spare tube just in case (not allways)

just as god intended...this is more like it...

what the hell use is a shower cap, a spare bath plug and three house bricks and a patio furniutre set when you are on a mountain bike.

Speaking of the bare essentials I hear that a group cycled naked through London last weekend in protest of western gasoline dependency.
Was Fred C amoung that group?

I carry my fast @ss around when I ride. And then you want me to carry another 10 lbs. of crap? :D

The nice thing is, if you are riding with friends, you can divy up the load.
At the very least, carry a multi-tool, tire levers, patch kit, pump, and a cell phone.

No use really, but basic tools to carry out get-you-back repairs are essential if you are going to ride more than a mile away from your car!!!!;)

I don't like having to carry a knackered bike 12.5 miles over rough terrain in bike shoes because of a broken chain, burst tube etc. It can happen to ANYONE, but in my experience it tends to happen to those that are halfway round a 25 mile loop with no tools....
