Here in Seattle nearly all new bikes come with Shimano parts. Campy is very hard to find included with a new bike but can, of course, be ordered. The problem with that is that there is no price break - you have to pay full price including the full bike shop markup.
Is there a reason for this? Does Shimano get kickbacks or have some super marketing deal? Is this true in other states or countries?

Shimano sells its stuff to bike manufacturers at a big discount, i believe its discounted below the wholesale price by 15-20% and thats a strong incentive for manufacturers to use their stuff
IMO here in SA, most of the bikes also come out with Shimano. As you go up the price range then only you start to get Campy's.
