OK. Boneheaded wheel question time. I have been looking to upgrade my wheels and one pair I'm thinking about has a 27mm Aero Rim. Does this mean I cannot use 700x23 tires? Do the 27 and 23 have any relation?

Thanks

27mm is the rim depth. The internal width is probably 12-13mm, the bead seat diameter is 622mm, a 19-23mm 700c tyre will fit OK.

You'll find 700 x 19c through 25c tires that fit your rim, I think up to 28c is possible aswell. The XXc is the width of the tire.

Generally wheels with a deeper rim section are considered more aerodynamic, which is why the manufacturer uses the 27 mm rim as a selling point.

You should be aware that 27mm is not significantly more "aero" than any simple box rim.
