What sort of track frame do you have? What's your dream track bike?

I Have a carlton frame (I think they've gone bust)

But I am rapidly getting bigger (as a teenager) so my dad is saving up off ebay etc to get me a terry dolan or a similar brand for track with a nice paintjob i Hope :)

I would love a CORIMA, a nice yellow one.
Complete with a MAVIC IO and MAVIC DISK.

OH I can dream! ;)

I have a Hansom (south african bike) built with Columbus SLX tubing (trusty but rusty!) and a variety of components - Campag Record Large Flange hubs, Shimano Ultegra cranks and BB, 3TTT bars and stem, velocity deep section rims.

It's done about 30,000km and been through at least 10 accidents and still works like a dream!

Eldron

Thats super impressive. Hansom should be talking to you and working out just how much a testimonial like yours is worth. 8) 8)

I have a Peter Bundy (Australian builder, columbus Max) frame. It is actually being borrowed from a former Junior world champ who now rides a BT. It has all sorts of gear on it including Velocity Areohead rims (shallow "V") laced with Sapim CX-Ray spokes to 36 hole Suntour hubs. Australian made 165mm cranks and chainrings and Nitto track bars with a 3t stem. Very nice to ride, and i dont want to give it back :( .

My dream bike would probably be something like a Look KG396/Corima with Campag record group and Mavic 5 spoke (iO???) wheels. I also prefer to use Shimano pedals with "sprint" double straps for power events, or Shimano SPD-R for enduro events. Carnac "pista" shoes to complete the package.

I must add that I'm a bit anal about looking after my bikes - in an accident I try to climb under the bike to stop it getting damaged.....

Fort - track bikes can go down to something stupid like 5kg but generally they're up around 8kg. Stiffness and reliability is more important than weight on a track bike.

Ideal bike - a BT like the aussies are using. Dura Ace track gruppo - octalink cranks are super stiff! Mavic 5 spoke wheel up front and disk at the back. Two disks for pursuit.....

I have recently ordered a new track frame from a local (NSW, Australia) builder who is beginning to make his mark on the framebuilding stage. My new "Ovington" frame is being made from Columbus Airplane OS tubing in a slightly compact geometry, w/ espresso BB shell, Integrated 1 1/8" internal headset, and Roselli Carbon (track specific) forks. Should be ready for Christmas......do u think i can wait!!??

Trackie, your'e going to need a rather large X-mas stocking! ;D

So whats the bike like? as good as you hoped?

I'd swap my c'dale anyday for a custom frame :D

cheers!

I have OLD Somec frame made from Columbus SLX and equipped with Record group from 90's. I have old Shamal wheels and Russian disk. Russian disk is really good and bike works great in madison and pointsrace.

Carlton track frames are as good today as they were first made. Carlton were bought up by Raleigh in the UK and were made with custom Raleighs in their special frame shop... unfortunately Raleigh was then bought by some bean counters in the States and a lot of the brands disappeared. Raleigh have recently been saved but there specialist departments have now gone.

When you buy a new frame go for steel Deda or similar not aluminium ,paint job is superficial. Aluminium doesnt have the enrgy that steel gives.:D

Pearl white Colubus Zonal frame with Columbus Muscle forks. Ideal track bike would be a BT frame with Campag disc

I have my track bike as posted above and am still smiling :> i dont know how to post a picture so unfortunately i cant show off my pride and joy. I have to say though, that i am totally rapped with the result. I am currently in the process of organising a secong hand pair of speicalized tri spokes for my racing wheels. i cant wait.
