I have been using my intorduction bike for a few years and have been looking to make the move up.
If you are doing serious km's I wouldn't look below 105 level. If you are interested in speed look at the quality of wheels, and for quality of bike look at the frame quality.
The merida magnesium frame looks nice, and the wheels look better but you will need your own pedals
The sticker means very little and I think the Gitane is a good introduction bike, but I feel the Merida is a bit better, give em a ride and decide.
Thanks for the help, I'm leaning towards the Merida, as the Gitane isn't full 105. I think they have different brakes. Hopefully my shopping day next week will set me straight after a few rides.
