What To Expect Shifting fm MTB to Tri-Bike

I got into biking because of my interest in finishing a triathlon.

However, I started with an MTB instead of a road bike most newbie triathletes go for as I will move next year and felt that an MTB is more flexible--XC it in case roads where I'm going are good, freeride it in case the trails there are more fun.

I've thus far lost quite a bit of weight and my knees/ankles seem to be holding up to sprint triathlon's 5km runs (I'm gingerly building up to 7km runs now as olympic distance tri's call for 10km). Seeing that tri-bikes ain't cheap, I'm doing some forward planning.

To those who've tried both MTB's and tri-bikes, what to you are the key differences in terms of riding experience and training requirements?

I'd also welcome suggestions on how to prepare myself for the transition from an MTB to a tri-bike.

Thanks!
