I used to make a sandwich called a "hot sicilian":

2 ounces sliced Ham
2 ounces sliced Pepperoni
2 slices Mozzerella cheese
2 slices of cooked bacon

heat the meat, then on top melt the cheese in the broiler. When the
cheese starts to bubble, criss-cross the bacon slices so it melts into
the cheese.

Serve on toasted roll with lettuce, tomato, sliced onion with Italian
dressing and a dash of parmesan cheese.

I'm confused now. Are we talking sausage or green bell peppers?

We have this Salsiccia piccante calabrese:

Is it the same? Are your Pepperoni seasoned?

Pandora, I'm curious - I'm pretty sure you have the sausage that
we (in the U.S.) refer to as "pepperoni," but I have no idea what
you call it. To us, "pepperoni" means a kind of dry salami that is
(usually) pork and beef, about 1" in diameter, and seasoned with
ground red and/or cayenne pepper and garlic. Wikipedia claims
that in Italy, the closest equivalent would be "salame piccante" -
does that sound right?

It looks close in color, at least - is this a "dry" sausage?

Yes, what we call "pepperoni" is seasoned and is at least somewhat "hot"
(spicy), with the primary seasonings being red pepper and garlic.

Sliced very thin, this is a very popular topping for American pizzas.

Confusingly, Americans also know "pepperoncini" as an Italian
green pepper, often pickled - I think you may call this "pepperoncino"
or "peperone"? A smaller, golden-green pepper?

Yes. It is a salami, but in some regions of Italy it is called "Salsiccia"
(sausage).

Oh, yes, like certain italian salami.
BTW, with the word "seasoned" I meant "Matured". Is it matured?

Ohhh! Like in south Italy.

We have only one word:"Peperoncini" (with only one "P"), which are your hot
chili peppers.
We call The green ones (which are sweet and not hot): "Friggitelli". Because
we fry them in the frying pan.
Friggitelli are these:

Then we have Peperoni (your bell-pepper).

Yes. We call these: peperoncini "Friggitelli". Often, we say only
Friggitelli.

Stuff some chicken breasts with diced pepperoni and crushed pineapple,
sounds bad but tastes terrific!

I like it plain on a plate with cheese and fruit and a nice glass of Pinot Gris to go
with. Maybe add a few Triscuits.
