What to wear under a wetsuit

I about 10 months, I will attempt a Triathlon. For the swim, it is
recomended to wear a wetsuit (the water is always cold).

My simple question -- Do I need to buy a special swimsuit? Can I simply wear
a pair of cycling shorts underneath?

Thanks,

Micheal

Absolutely. Although you may want to consider triathlon shorts, which
have less padding and are less bulky than cycling shorts, but still
provide more cushioning than ordinary swimming shorts.

To save the most amount of time, you need to get some tri shorts- (normal
cycling niks are not fun when wet). Being male or female you should also
wear a tri top which dries out quickly and can be worn on the cycle and run
and I also wear my racebelt underneath. Less to think about and makes sure
you dont forget it!

Actually, the cycling shorts i wear are fairly comfortable when wet. I have
actually swam in them, and biked home.

Since I am taking of the wetsuit, and since I realy am not concerned about
time, yet, I would just only put on a moisture wicking shirt on.

What is a race belt?

Thanks,

Micheal

The problem is you have to wear a shirt when you cycle and run, and they
are hell to get on when you are wet. You can also carry some fuel shots
(depending on the length of the tri) in the back pockets of your tri top.
A race belt is an elastic belt with little toggles on it, you slide your
number on it-wear it on the back for the cycle and on the front for the run.
Must more convenient than pins.

Also, ever wear wet biking shorts during a run? I'd try that before
deciding to not buy a pair of tri specific shorts (smaller pad).
Serious chafing issues with regular bike shorts...

My 2 cents..

Want a free ipod? This actually works. A friend of mine did it and got
her free ipod a few months ago. NY Time, Wired and others have verified
that it's legitimate and not a scam. Pretty cool way to get an ipod!

I did my first few tris in just plain, non-padded lycra/spandex shorts,
which work fine if you've got a pair. Not recommended for longer
distance but didn't cause me any serious problems up to Olympic
distance.
