I'm not sure what speed I actually peaked at, but on the 18th stage of the 2004 Tour I believe I must have averaged 75mph for a few minutes in order to reel in that rascal Filippo Simeoni. I didn't want to do it, but out of principle I felt that I had to. The interesting thing about the whole business, that most people aren't aware of, is that on the way back to the peleton I had Filippo's ear in a merciless pincer grip with my left hand, both of us riding backwards like circus performers. Oh, those were good times!
