If I ever go up around there I'll watch out then! But no, I live in London and this was in Islington
& Hackney. Hasn't happened before or since (touch wood) - but maybe the weather's kept the little
buggers in...

Just occurred to me that whenever I give my neighbour a lift in the morning I'm depriving Arriva of
a fare. This extracts a small revenge for when they "Thoroughly investigated your complaint of a bus
running you into the kerb but have come up with nothing", despite the time, place and bus number
being given. How surprising!

I occasionally see a van sign-written with "Welding Mobility & Son", which always makes me chuckle.

. When I was living in London a l-o-n-g time ago, I regularly corpsed when coming across the
trucking company Brain Haulage. Anyone know them? - bright yellow and red dress.

They certainly had a presence in Belmont - I used to see tham regularly (and snigger regularly) when
I lived in Kenton.

No, but I am amused by the shop and associated van from somewhere in darkest Hackney belonging to
"Ken Machines". I imagine he must be a Scotsman...

I know this is incredibly childish of me but a couple of vans which I sometimes see, and am amused by, are the Rodger's Meats butcher's van and the vans belnging to the company Spendlove C. Jebb. I told you it was childish.

Getting kind of onto the main topic, I have had young males shout 'Nice ****' at me, for which I thanked them for their compliment and recently had a car pull alongside me as a cycled so they could wind down the windows and shout something I couldn't make out at me.

Obviously the attraction of a bicycle is great to such people and gives them some reason to stare and be obnoxious. I mean, it's not like you see a bicycle every day or anything.

There's a coach company called "Impact Tours", too. A colleague of mine was mightily amused by
seeing one of their vehicles labelled "Every seat fitted with a safety belt"!

I think it's the same outfit. They certainly run minibuses round hereabouts.

Indeed - stragely, when given precisely the same details, the gentlemen in blue suits appear
able to come up with the driver's name in no time. I think they use the mystic incantation
"operator's licence"

Is that off the Medomsley Road?

It is indeed. Up in "hillbilly country".

To which the response should be "Speak for yourself", why is it that passengers rather than drivers
seem to be more abusive.

The 'Van Hire' family seem very big. There is Albert in the Leeds area and Salford in the Manchester
area. Then there is the 'Van Rental' family. The trouble with drivers of vehicles from these
families is that the drivers seem to be a little inexperienced in driving them as they do not allow
as much clearance when passing (either overtaking or going the opposite direction) as drivers of
larger vehicles (like trucks and buses).

Because they are on the left?
