I plan on stopping into a San Francisco bike shop in the next few days and fitting my bike for a cross country trip.

Does anyone know of a shop that outperforms the others in service and price? I figure I'll be spending a lot of money, so I want to consider shops above and beyond my usual neighborhood bike shop.

    Thanks. :)

I don't know what kind of outfitting you need, but Lombardi Sports is my favorite place to browse.

Try Roaring Mouse Cycles - http://www.roaringmousecycles.com. They are very nice and knowledgeable without giving attitude. Talk to Chris, his is one of the owners and always takes the time to talk and explain things in detail.

Where do you live. If there is a good one close to where you work or live, that would probably be the most convenient shop to choose.

ChainReaction is good. In the city, I'm kind of partial to Pacific Bike.

Redwood City. I used to work a block away and commuted there from Pacifica.

Once I came in with a creaky bottom bracket on a bike I hadn't bought from them. They took the BB/crankset apart, cleaned the threads, put it all together, lubed my pedals and seat post, etc. - all for free! Great guys.

Their web site is awesome too!

Roaring Mouse rules!!! They are so nice, knowledgable, and don't try to pressure you into buying anything.

If you're going to be in Marin, see my signature (Mt Tam Bikes). In SF, add one more vote for Roaring Mouse. Chris is very helpful and knowledgable. It's amazing how they pack so much in such a small space!

Yet another vote for Roaring Mouse (Judah/12th in the Inner Sunset). Chris is very helpful and responsive to questions both in person and via email.
