Where are you from, what do you do?

I am Maarten 21 years old live near Antwerpen in Belgium.

I am one of the trainers of Wac-Team hoboken, which is one of the biggest and best belgian youth teams. I am still a student(econmics at ufsia university)

I mostly train the -14years olds but occasionnaly also do debutants and juniors. They say I am obsessed by cycling.

I used to ride a lot when I was 16-18 years old(between 20000and 25000km) finshed 50th of about 700 riders in the national rankings in my first real year as a cyclist I consider this overrated but I didnt make the point rules :) The next year we should have won the natonal teams Cylco cross competition but a flat from my team mate made us become 2nd with 1point short (we were all three first year junior but it helps when your team mates are both with the 5 best of your category) when I was 16 I started to assist with the trainings for the youngsters. When I became 18 I decided because of university studies not to become elite but ride with something like the veterans because these races are shorter and require less training.

My category is now cyclosportief I decide to really go training for the national veterans track championships three weeks in front. I became 3d in the sprint and second at 1k time trial( 2.9 secs from the veterans record 1.5 from the title I rode a regular bike the winner a TTbike with disc rear wheel which sadly made the difference). This was 2001 I decided to go for the record in 2002 test where good sadly The federation annulated the championships >:( .

2003 Would be the year I'd give it a try with the elites but someone banged his cog in my leg last weekend which might mean it will be another veterans season. When they have a 1km championship I might have another go for the record. IT's only 1.14 which really sucks but there is only one chance the nationals on a rough outdoor asphalt track which is really slow(record was also set there). I asked the federation to be able to ride the wooden track with the elites when this comes ok the record must be shatterd(but first my ankle has to heal).

I hope my boys and girls keep enjoying cycling and add some big victory's to these which they already have.

Wow, thats quite a pedigree you have there maarten. Do any of your youngsters have Olympic or TdF asspirations?

Well most of these kids dream of becomming pro.
Some riders who belonged to our team or still belonged when it happend dit already make it to the olympics or Pro status in the past and one even made it to the podium in the tour the France but this is from before my time. Some of these kids we have now may make it too but for me its still more important that they all enjoy there sport, are able to do it safe and get the possibilities to reach their personal potential(whatever it might be).

Here some off the results (to illustrate)which are achieved by a team of which I am just a little part.
Some of the results off the last years 3 of our riders

Elite
Track individual Pursuit title, points race and combined title

Juniors

National champion cyclo-cross and MTB and podium finish in the road race, 6the on European championship MTB, World champion Cyclo-cross for what the juniors(17-18) are concerned. girls top 5 in the national road race

Debutants

Winning team ranking in several of the biggest belgian races(2000-2002), most victories for one rider in a season(2002), most victories in one team (2002) winning al the jerseys in the local stage race(2002),
Belgian title road and number two(16year old 2002) belgian title road(15year old 2000),
regional championships road 16year old: number 1&2(2001) number 1&2 (2002), 1to5 in TT (2001) 2to5in TT(2000) 1 in TT(2002) road 15 year old: 1 in both 2000& 2002
cyclocross nationals 2nd (2002) 1&3 (2000), regionals 2-4(2002)
Victory of opening and king stage and opning stage an GC of the biggest european more day event
girls 4th in both road and TT (2002)

under 14

Lots of victories including several complete podiums
dominated the nationals (2000)
Regional Cyclo-Cross title boys 12year and girls 13year 1 to 3 boys 14 year

This is just what I know by heart, I left some things out and will have forgotten several others. There might be some slight errors, If you really want it I can look It all up but this wil take some time

I'm living in Dublin in Ireland, working as a Software Engineer.

Raced as a Junior in 1995 and rode Junior Tour of Ireland. At that time, it was an 8-day race around 1/2 the country. A certain David Millar won 2 stages; Another bloke just made redundant by Mapei, Charlie Wegelius, won 3 stages... and a Postie by the name of David Clinger gave us all a rough time!

Now I do the odd race (as in a couple per year). I only ride to work now, which is 20Km each way.

By the way, is anyone here from Deutschland? I am trying to track down a girl... firstname Anna, Surname ????.

Basically, if anyone here knows Trixi Worrack or has a way of getting in touch with Trixi's club in Germany, let me know... This Anna girl was in the same club and she still trains with them. I met her over Zolder and we were out on the beer in the Irish bar in Hasselt... I have a photo of her with Sean Kelly that we said we'd send it to her but we forgot to get her bloody address! So any Germans out there.... get in touch!
Welcome Velocipedio hope you like it here.

I'd like to hear how to solve some of the world problems, but right at the moment I'm a bit busy, still after I clean the bike I'd be happy to listen ;D

A few profiles here (Joe Gardner, Velocipedio & WorldIRC) are fake, as well as all posts are from thoes profiles. This is due to banning a member over at BikeForums.net

Steve is aware of the situation, hopefully this wont harm the forums here. Sorry for the spam.

~Joe (yes, the real one... ;D)

Thanks Joe.

I wasn't sure, but the one mis-giving I had was the fact that Bikeforums wasn't down as your homepage on the profile.

Still I like it here and at Bike forums ;), see you later.

Hi

I'm from Denmark and I enjoy riding to get some time away from the books. I'm trying my best to become a dentist, yeah I know, odd choice :-\
I'm a roadie but when it gets really cold as it is at this time of year I take my mtb to the woods to find cover from the biting cold wind.

cheers

I'm also from Dallas Texas. I work in cosmetics for an upscale dept. store. Went to school for business and fashion merchandising. I'm mostly into mountainbiking but have just started road biking to get miles in for racing. Are most of you roadies or mountain bikers? Lotek, I'm dont know if I can help with your problem, I'm not quite sure what Biltong is. I can guess but may be way off.
